NEWS + Acting career

Posted on October 13, 2016 at 8:35 AM Comments comments (0)

Good afternoon,

First of all, it was announced some weeks ago that Jane Asher is going to perform the first musical of her life... aged 70!

It's 'An American' in Paris, at London's Dominion theatre since spring next year.

Also, I've updated Jane's 'Acting Career' page from this site. All the information I've got from all her 1950s & 1960s roles (TV, stage, film...) has been added. Also, I've updated the photogallery, because some of the pictures where added long ago and now I had better versions of them (better quality, bigger, fuller...) so I decided to change them :)

Thank you.

Violet :)

Jane & Gerald 1990s photos

Posted on July 29, 2016 at 11:55 AM Comments comments (1)

Hello everybody,

Finally a new gallery has been added and finally it's Jane & Gerald from 1990s (events pics).

It's difficult to find Jane & Gerald pics from 1970s/1990s, so that's why 1980s is still missing. But at least I've added much needed pictures from that era!

There are missing many from the 2010s, specially the most recent ones. You'll find them either at my blog for Jane at tumblr or at thehttps://www.facebook.com/JaneAsherSource" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> facebook page I run.

Enjoy and have a nice summer holidays everyone! xoxo

Added one new page: Acting Career

Posted on July 8, 2016 at 11:45 AM Comments comments (0)

Hello everybody,

I've created a new page for the site, Acting Career. It was already on the site, added as a small link in her Biography, but now it has become a greater page on its own.

Its purpose is to be the most complete list of all Jane's acting career, including stage work, film, TV, etc. The work is still in progress, and if you have more details that haven't been added yet, please, feel free to contact us with them.

Thank you very much!

Jane Asher as Miss Havisham in Dicken's "Great Expectations" play

Posted on March 20, 2016 at 3:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Good afternoon,

Since last March 4th and until April 2nd Jane will be starring as Miss Havisham in Charles Dicken's "Great Expectations" (apologies for finding it out now, very late) at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds. You can find some pictures at the gallery.

Great Expectations is Charles Dickens’s thirteenth novel and his penultimate completed novel; a bildungsroman which depicts the personal growth and personal development of an orphan nicknamed Pip.

The novel was first published as a serial in Dickens’s weekly periodical All the Year Round, from 1 December 1860 to August 1861. In October 1861, Chapman and Hall published the novel in three volumes.

It is set among marshes in Kent, and in London, in the early to mid-1800s, and Jane Asher plays the character of Miss Havisham, a wealthy spinster (an unmarried woman who is past the usual age for marrying and is considered unlikely to marry) who lives in her ruined mansion, Satis House, with her adopted daughter, Estella. Dickens describes her as looking like “the witch of the place.” Although she has often been portrayed in film versions as very elderly, Dickens’s own notes indicate that she is only in her mid-fifties. However, it is also indicated that her long life away from the sunlight has in itself aged her, and she is said to look like a cross between a waxwork and a skeleton, with moving eyes.

"The Gathered Leaves" play pictures & reviews

Posted on July 17, 2015 at 2:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Good afternoon,

Some pictures of the preview night (July 15th) and press night (July 16th) of "The Gathered Leaves" play have been posted at the album.

The Park Theatre’s production of The Gathered Leaves is quite the family affair after father/son duo Alexander and Tom Hanson join Jane Asher and her daughter Katie Scarfe in the show’s world premiere.

The drama about a family that comes together for the first time in more than 17 years will play at the Park200 from 15 July to 15 August.

Clive Francis heads up the family as 74-year-old William alongside Asher as his on-stage wife Olivia. Alexander and Tom play father and son Giles and Simon in the production.

Alongside Hanson and Asher’s real-life daughter Scarfe, Nick Sampson completes the family’s second generation as Samuel, while completing the line-up as the trio’s children, Emily and Aurelia, are Georgina Beedle and Amber James.

Described by Francis as “An exemplary piece of writing, wittily bittersweet and very disturbing”, The Gathered Leaves centres on the Pennington family as they gather with the aim of putting the past well and truly behind them.

The production is directed by Antony Eden.

“This could well transfer to the West End – but I’d recommend catching The Gathered Leaves right now…. A top notch 11-strong cast…. [Jane] Asher gives a performance of serene elegance, [Clive] Francis is unpredictably loveable as well as breathtakingly crushing, [Alex] Hanson gives a superb understated performance, Nick Sampson deserves an award for his overwhelmingly touching depiction… A must see drama.”

★ ★ ★ ★ The Times

“…replete with scenes of charged emotional intensity and moments of safety-valve humour, you’re drawn into a recognisable uptight world of simmering resentments, recriminations and rifts. Clive Francis is fantastic… Nick Sampson is superb…. Hugely impressive.”

"The Gathered Leaves"

Posted on July 8, 2015 at 5:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello everybody,

I've updated the website adding the first "The Gathered Leaves" pictures that I found. There's one promotional picture and then several rehearshing, from last July 2nd. I've added some of Katie Scarfe as well.

The Pennington family have not been in the same room for over 17 years.

But on the eve of William’s 75th birthday, all three generations gather with the aim of putting the past well and truly behind them.

If only it were that simple.

And to make matters worse, they are running out of time – or rather William is – as the world that he has always known is steadily beginning to crumble around him.

I have lived long enough to see the unknown unfold in front of my eyes. I have watched it turn from nothing into something. You talk of challenging me… challenging my point of view. My point of view is the product of challenge; I’ve been challenged all my life. What can you say? With your head peeking out from under the umbrella of education for the first time you’re absolutely petrified of feeling your first drop of rain. What can you say?

The Gathered Leaves is a moving, poignant and funny family drama that sees the weight of family history, of reputation, and of expectation, all descend on one family over Easter weekend in 1997.

Updated "Mandy" screen caps

Posted on June 6, 2015 at 12:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi there,

I've added "Mandy" screen caps again. On September last year I did change all my Jane related sites URL (for facebook, blogspot, tumblr...) and all of them became "Jane Asher (re)Source". It was easier this way to connect the sites with each other.

But I did the "Mandy" screen caps before this changing, so I'm adding them again with the new name (both "Jane Asher (re)Source" and "Lady Jane @yahoo").

Plus, the tags used to be at the bottom of the picture, but it seems some people found some of the pics via google images (so they say) cropped, so I've added the tags in the middle of the pic, but not over Jane's face. This way, if people google for Jane Asher pics they'll find the site's name on the pic and can find the sites and thus can find more pics!

The reason of the tags, besides that knowing if some people post my pics without giving credit (but then they'll be the tagged so I'll know) is that it took me much time to do them. And sometimes people don't realise that. If the tags annoy you, you just simply try to find a copy of the film yourself and do the screen caps yourself. No problem with that.

All my other scans (not much screen caps for the moment, I think) that are already uploaded at any of my sites with the old tags, will eventually be replaced with their new versions.

Thank you!

Jane Asher & daughter lead Park???s Leaves, 2015

Posted on May 29, 2015 at 8:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Jane Asher will star alongside her daughter Katie Scarfe in the world premiere of Andrew Keatley’s The Gathered Leaves at the Park Theatre this summer.

The production, which is directed by current The Woman In Black star Antony Eden, will bring its tale of family history, reputation and expectation to the Finsbury Park venue from 16 July to 15 August.

Star of Alfie and Brideshead Revisited, Asher, whose recent stage credits include Pride And Prejudice at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, will lead the family drama that charts the story of the Penningtons as they gather together on the eve of William’s 75th birthday for the first time in more than 17 years.

She is joined by her daughter Scarfe, whose London stage credits include Mercury Fur at the Trafalgar Studios and Season’s Greetings at the National Theatre, with further casting still to be announced.

The Gathered Leaves is a quite terrific play, one of the best I’ve read for a long time. A family saga up there with Apologia and The Last of the Haussmans – and even maybe August: Osage County.” Nick Hern, Nick Hern Books.

Jane Asher said, “I’ve always believed that theatre should be all about the writer: the actor’s job is to put across the work to its full potential, and to be doing that for the very first time with a brand new play has always been my favourite kind of stage work. So I’m particularly excited about ‘The Gathered Leaves’, not only a brilliant and wonderfully written new play, but being staged in a new, beautiful London theatre. And – I’ve wanted to work with Katie for many years, so when I heard she had been cast as my stage daughter in the play the whole project became even more special. I can’t wait!

Katie Scarfe said, “I’m thrilled to be working on this exciting new piece of writing at such a vibrant and fresh London venue. It will be fascinating to have the opportunity to use a real relationship to inform an on-stage one, and I can’t wait to start rehearsals.

The production will open in the Park Theatre’s largest auditorium Park200 prior to Nick Darke’s The Dead Monkey, starring James Lance, which opens in the venue’s more intimate Park90 space.

Added 'Mandy' screenshots

Posted on April 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello everybody!

The site's gallery has been updated with Mandy screenshots! This was Jane's acting debut, at the tender age of 5 :)

The screen captures are made by me. Please, *PLEASE*, if you want to use any, give credit to at least one of the sites tagged in the photos (Jane Asher (re)source, https://www.facebook.com/JaneAsherLovers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Jane Asher Lovers, Lovely Jane Asher orhttps://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ladyjane/info" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Lady Jane). At least one!

And, of course, don’t remove the tags. I’ve spend time to get the copy, taking the screen captures, editing them and tagging them. And sharing them. So, if they annoy you, go and find a copy of the film yourself, and take the screen caps yourself.

Don’t crop the pics! Don’t do any artwork with them that involves hiding or deleting/cropping the tags. If you do it… well, I have MANY films & TV shows to screen caping (? exists this word?), so maybe next time the tags will be larger… or in the middle of the pic… or over her face…

Thanks so much for your comprenhension.

Vio :)

Theatre Royal Bath Productions presents

JANE ASHER IN

Moon Tiger

Directed by Stephen Unwin

Adapted from Penelope Lively’s Booker Prize-winning novel by Simon Reade

Mon 24 Feb to Sat 1 Mar

Compelling, moving and eloquent, one of the great novels of the 20th century is brought to the stage for the first time. Winner of the 1987 Booker Prize, Penelope Lively’s Moon Tiger is a haunting story of loss and desire.

Claudia Hampton is a popular historian, a strong, beautiful and difficult woman. Now in her seventies, she is plotting her greatest work – a history of the world. She looks back over her life growing up between the wars and remembers the people who have shared its triumphs and tragedies. There is Gordon, her adored brother; Jasper, the charming, untrustworthy lover and father of her daughter, and Tom, her one great love, both found and lost during the El Alamein campaign when she worked as a war correspondent. Against a background of world events, Claudia’s own remarkable story provokes a sharp combination of sadness, shock and amusement.

Jane Asher is one of the UK’s most accomplished actresses. Her recent theatre credits include Pride and Prejudice at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Charley’s Aunt, The Importance of Being Earnest and Festen. Recent television includes Stephen Poliakoff’s Dancing on the Edge, Holby City and The Old Guys and she stars in the 2013 film I Give it a Year.

Simon Reade’s plays include Pride and Prejudice, Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children and Ted Hughes’s Tales from Ovid for the RSC and Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful.

Dame Penelope Lively is a prolific, popular and critically-acclaimed author of fiction for both children and adults.
